Class Programs

The Mulford School is the premier preschool in Northern Virginia and has been for over 50 years.  There is no other preschool in Northern Virginia that offers what Mulford Preschool offers.

Mulford Preschool teaches to each child as an individual. We focus on social, emotional, academic and fine and gross motor skills. Through positive reinforcement, the children are encouraged daily to try new tasks.

Our curriculum is child based, ensuring that each student feels successful during daily activities. Lifetime skills, such as time management and group awareness are incorporated into each activity. Children’s understanding of basic concepts and language development flourish using our fingerplays and rhythm band songs. We provide this with developmentally appropriate materials and experiences.

At Mulford Preschool each child’s preschool experience is positive and happy. Our school creates the solid foundation of life time skills that children will carry with them for the rest of their lives. An advantage for a lifetime.

Mulford Pre-K Program

Mulford Pre-K leads each student to achieve their highest potential. The program, an extension of our Preschool classes, continues to teach the Lifetime Skills in combination with academics. All strategies, skills and concepts build on each other to give each student a strong and solid foundation. Through positive reinforcement, children are encouraged daily to try new tasks. Success builds confidence and a positive attitude toward learning. Using the Mulford Method, each child feels successful and makes wonderful growth and progress. Children quickly realize that learning is fun and demonstrate an “I can do anything!” attitude.

The Skills that are taught are modified depending on each student’s progress and confidence, independence and consistency.

Once a strong understanding is achieved a new skill/concept/strategy is introduced and taught. Visual discrimination and auditory processing skills are practiced throughout the year. Learned skills are reviewed and practiced often. Most Math concepts are taught using a manipulative, hands on approach, progressing into more abstract level thinking.
